WELCOME TO 3RD QUARTER 

Today's Tasks

1. Grammar Review - 1st Semester Review

a. Eight Parts of Speech and Labeling
b. Download the following practice sheet, make a copy ,and rename it according to the following example: 

     A2_AndersonB_EightPartsReviewSheet


c. Complete the practice sheet by next class.

2. Opportunity for Extra Credit

a. Personal Narratives from 1st Quarter Shared with Dance Class.
b. All you have to do is tell me you are willing to have your story shared.

3. Vocabulary List #201-210 (New Words)

a. Good News! I will not be making you write sentences this semester, but I expect you to study everyday and really get them down. 
b. You will get about ten words a week.
c. Study 201-210 this week. 
d. Bell Quiz next class on 201-210!

4. Introduction to New Literature for 3rd Quarter

a. We will be reading The Rent Collector by Camron Wright this quarter.
b. Background and discussion.

4. Reading and Summarizing

a. Read pages 1-13 in The Rent Collector
b. Open a new document in your Google Drive and name it according to the following example:
     A2_AndersonB_RentCollectorReadingLog

c. Write the date and the pages read for each section assigned during the quater.
d. You will write two things under each section:
          1. A summary- A paragraph summarizing the key points and events.
          2. A response - A paragraph responding to the things that occurred in the reading. What do you think?

6. Close Reading and Discussion

a. Introduction to close reading and SOAPSTone reading.
b. Download, make a copy, and rename the SOAPSTone sheet according to the following example:

     A2_AndersonB_GettysburgAddressSOAPSTone 


c. Read "The Gettysburg Address" by Abraham Lincoln according to the close reading expectations and fill out the worksheet as you read.
d. Be ready to share and discuss your ideas and answers with the class.
e. Submit your answers to SOAPSTone Reading Worksheet in the following submission form:


7. Homework

a. Study Vocabulary Words 201-210 for Bell Quiz.
b. Complete the SOAPSTone Reading Sheet by next class. 
c. Make sure you are reading your January Home Reading Book everyday to stay caught up.
